A properly preloaded bearing will maximize the life of your bearings in their application. Preloading does this by ensuring that the rolling elements and the raceways are in constant contact; this will keep the bearing rolling instead of sliding.
BMC has the capability to change preloads on angular contact bearings to ensure your bearings are running correctly in your application. All of the bearings we preload are held to a tolerance of +0.0000’’/-0.0001 to ensure correct running accuracy and life of the bearing. All of our preloaded and flush ground bearings are 100% inspected in our temperature-controlled facility.
BMC can also change the arrangement of your angular contact pairs. (DB, DF, tandem, universal). If you are unsure of the arrangement, we can change them to universal to run in an application at any arrangement.
Need to replicate an existing preload, but have no idea on arrangement or loads? BMC can take your current bearing sets, verify, and grind brand new sets to match, No Hassle. We also can preload and pair radial ball bearings to your customers’ specific requirements.
Most preload values on angular contacts are designated by light, medium, and heavy preload identifiers. This value plays a crucial part in determining which preload is needed in your application. There are some cases where an application might need a custom preload that is in between one of the preload values listed by the manufacturer. We can change to specific values for any application.

A snap ring or retainer ring is a fastener that holds a bearing in an application in place. This also acts as a shoulder for the bearing. BMC can add grooves to bearings and install snap/retainer rings for specific applications. Snap rings are a great way to rapidly mount your bearings and have them adequately located axially in your application.
Most bearings with a snap ring installed are called out by the nomenclature “NR,” which calls out the manufacturers’ standard, which we can match. If you have a custom groove needed, we can modify your bearings to whatever print or sample you have. BMC stocks a wide range of snap ring sizes that cover most of the industry standards to ensure we can meet your delivery request, and we can also provide specialty rings (Spiral type, Stainless steel).
Here are some other groove types we can add to your bearings:
O-ring grooves
Lubrication groove and oil holes
U-groove
V-groove

Some applications call for ball bearings that need to run in more extreme environments. BMC is able to disassemble ball bearings and replace the steel rolling elements with Silicon Nitride ceramic balls (Si3N4). We stock a wide variety of ceramic ball sizes so we have what you need on the shelf when you need it.

Are you having issues with the following in your bearing application?
1.Electric arcing
2.Short life
3.Overheating in application
4.Damage by corrosion

Special coatings are used to improve bearing performance and extend life as well. Coatings are used in applications for a wide range of benefits. BMC can disassemble your bearings and have them coated in black oxide or Armoloy.
Black oxide is a type of conversion layer that alters the surface of the material. This adds virtually no material and may only change the surface 1-2 micrometers. This coating can be added to a wide array of bearing assemblies with no additional re-work needed.
Benefits to black oxide:
The Armoloy coating is TDC ( Thin Dense Chromium). It is FDA approved for food-grade applications, medical, pharmaceutical and has a wide array of other uses.

Reworking a bearing’s radial internal clearance is a very common modification that can be done to most bearing types. The internal clearance of a bearing affects many different aspects including the bearing’s life, how well it will function, and increase the running accuracy in the application.
Applications call for different radial internal clearance fits for spherical, cylindrical, and radial bearings. Sometimes it is hard to find the exact clearance range you need. BMC is able to disassemble and increase the internal clearance on these styles of bearings so you can get exactly what you need when you need it.
It is also common to adjust these clearances overtime in an application due to aging equipment with consistent bearing failures.
BMC can modify most bearing types in sizes ranging from 6inch to 48inch diameter.
Examples of clearance:
C2, C0, C3, C4, C5
If you have a bearing that has too big of clearance, we are able to manufacture oversized rollers to compensate for the internal clearance.
Please Note: Modifying a straight bore to a taper bore is another very common modification that will allow a standard bearing to be used/mounted in a different application. This alteration will also require the clearance to be modified as taper bored bearings and straight bored bearings have separate clearance ranges to compensate for the ID’s expansion.

Lubrication plays a critical role when it comes to a bearing’s life/performance inside any application.
BMC can add lubrication grooves and holes to outer and inner races to ensure your bearings are getting lubricated in your application. For some bearing types, there is a standard designation for all manufacturers for the common groove and oil holes.
Outer race groove and oil holes standard nomenclature:
W33, E4, S
Inner race groove with or without oil holes standard nomenclature:
W26, W94, H40A
We know that the standard sometimes will not work for an application. Along with a sample or print, we offer custom lubrication grooves and holes per your exact requirements. We can also provide specialty lube mods in spindle application bearings, sometimes referred to as a DLR modification.

Some applications call for a bearing to have a tapered bore. Sometimes, you can only find a style of bearing with a straight bore. BMC is able to modify Thru hardened bearings with a straight bore to a taper bore per your requirements. The two main styles of tapered bores are 1:12 (K) & 1:30 (K30). When changing a bearing’s bore to a tapered bore, the radial internal clearance range also changes for that bearing. We are also able to change the internal clearance to match the major manufacturers’ standards for tapered bore bearings.

BMC is able to measure taper roller bearing assemblies and modify the spacer to achieve the proper end-play that is needed for your application. If the existing spacer does not work for the end-play needed, we can manufacture a new spacer and modify it to the correct size.
If you are unable to find the taper roller bearings in a set, we can take the individual cup and cones sets and put them in matched sets with whatever required end-play is needed.
We are also able to put the special features in spacers, including lubrication grooves, oil holes, scallops, and slots.
BMC can modify Taper roller bearings Bench end-play in sizes up to 50 inch in diameter.

BMC has developed a process to add lifting holes into hardened bearing races. We can cut NPT, standard, and metric threads as well. Lifting holes can make those jobs much easier for heavy and difficult-bearing installations and save a ton of time.
